XLimits - Limitationen in Microsoft Project

The paste operation cannot be completed. The insert or paste operation cannot be completed because the total number of rows would exceed the limit of 1 million 48 thousand rows in a project. Insert fewer rows or delete rows, or consider dividing your project into subprojects.

In Microsoft Project, when you edit Gantt bar styles, although you can enter more than 51 characters for bar names, only the first 51 characters entered are actually retained.

Note that a similar 51-character limit exists for the text in the Show For...Tasks column. Note also that if the last entry in the Show For...Tasks column after truncating the list to 51 characters is still valid, Microsoft Project will retain that entry. For example, if you enter a list of conditions such that the "0" in Flag10 is the fifty-second character, the result will be a list ending with Flag1.

There is a 51-character limit for bar names.

Tips for Working with MS Project Files

The following tips are ways to work with files to prevent problems from occurring:

Work with files locally instead of over a network connection to avoid network interference when you save the file or update it.
Make sure all scheduling messages are turned on. To do this, click Options on the Tools menu, click the Schedule tab, and then click to select Show scheduling messages. If you enter data that causes scheduling inconsistencies, the messages will alert you. Make sure you resolve these conflicts before you save the file.
When you have a lot of formatting to do, change the format of the task category instead of individually formatting cells. The maximum number of cells that can be formatted is 64000 cells.
Always maintain clean backup copies of your files in case of problems. Save each file with a new file name and then store the files on a server that will be backed up on a regular basis.
